I'm trying to create a part from a 'Plane' between multiple shapes. Just like the Boolean does but you can only use this tool between two different shapes and as you can see from the attached picture I'm want to create a shape between the two yellow sides and around the centre parts. How can I do this so the 'Plane' becomes a part and then give it some padding?

Re: Boolean multiple shapes
So I take it you can't subtract the shapes from the Plane. I'd try it the other way around; select the plane and use Part WB > Extrude first to make a solid Extrude from it, then subtract the shapes from that Extrude.
Did you change the color of the cylinder in the middle to black? If not, it looks like you have a problem there. When you see a black shape in FreeCAD, that usually means FreeCAD doesn't know how to display it.

Yes, I changed the colour to black as this represents a carbon tube.Did you change the color of the cylinder in the middle to black? If not, it looks like you have a problem there. When you see a black shape in FreeCAD, that usually means FreeCAD doesn't know how to display it.
Re: Boolean multiple shapes
Do you mean to use the Part->Boolean->Cut tool?
When I use this it hides the other part under the new 'Cut' layer. How would I go about keeping the part in-place? Do I simple go into the 'Cut' layer and make the part visible again. Won't this become a problem when you have multiple cuts for different Extrudes. see my layers panel attached and this is for one extrude part.

Re: Boolean multiple shapes
Yes - you did it.
It's still there...
Yes, just select it in the history tree and press Spacebar to toggle visibility on and off.
No. In Part WB you can re-use your previous objects, just be careful not to create a circular dependency.
Re: Boolean multiple shapes
Ok, thank you. I'm still working out what people call the tools as they have multiple names at times.
I need to look that up and see what you mean by 'circular dependency'
Code: Select all
