PAN (ctrl + right click ) , popup context menu, how to fix?

Post by nquantum »

When I drag in FreeCAD I often use ctrl + right mouse click, normally I can release right mouse click only hold ctrl key (also shift in rotate view) then release when I go to view I want. Reason I don't like middle mouse click/hold coz button is hard. Also middle+right click is hard to press and reach.

Anywhere in FreeCAD is okay. But on editing sketch is the issue. Ctrl + right click, once release mouse then context menu appear. I have to escape or click at empty area every time I pan view in editing sketch. Quite annoy. No issue with Shift + right click!?

Is this can fix able? Or another workflow suggestion?
Thank.

FreeCAD 0.17
Windows 10

PS. in picture mouse move cursor not show. (I'm try to pan and/or rotate view)
- ctrl and hold + right click and hold >> release right click , context menu show
- ctrl and hold + right click and release , context menu show
- shift and hold + right click and hold >> release right click , no context menu show

Try the different navigation styles and use the one you like best. I like the blender mode.

Perhaps this was forgotten when Ctrl+Middle mouse was implemented in 0.17, because Sketcher behaves a bit different to prevent unintended rotation. It might be worth creating a ticket, so it will not be forgotten, because Abdullah is currently out of reach to take part in this discussion.

If you do so, please cross reference this tickettopic.

Edit: bejant, thanks for correcting the severe typo.

Has this ever been implemented? I also very much like to pan with ctrl and right mouse click, but context menu gets in the way.

I had the same issue on a Mac and was able to find a solution. Not sure if this would work for you but worth sharing anyway.
This is for a Mac + Apple Magic keyboard and an Apple Magic Mouse

Had the same issue when below Navigation setting is left at default.
FreeCAD>Preferences>Display>Navigation>3D Navigation: Mouse CAD
With this setting:
Rotate: shift & right click [no issue]
Zoom: slide finger on mouse forward and backward [no issue]
Pan: command & right click [NOT OK... turns on the context menu everytime]

I tried all the settings for this coupled with possible keyboard shortcuts and with below setting I was able to find a solution.
FreeCAD>Preferences>Display>Navigation>3D Navigation: Mouse Gesture
Rotate: option & left click [no issue]
Zoom: slide forward and backward [no issue]
Pan: command & right click [no issue]

With this setting, Rotate and Pan shortcut keys option and command are next to each other and option key on the left works with mouse left click etc. Made it convenient for me to get used to it. Hope this helps...
