Something might have gone wrong, but there is no file attached. A very simple way would be to make a boolean Cut with the part you were successful with, but that would leave you with 0 tolerance. Besides that both work exactly the same and share the same problems. To name the most common:
- coplanar issue 1: it is best to start the helix not at the seam of the cylinder;
- coplanar issue 2: don't align the triangle with the outer edge of the cylinder;
- two subsequent turns must not overlap.

I don't understand the question. What is the difference between a thread and threading? :?:

Sorry, for the incomprehension.

Once again:
Wiktionary wrote: tap, verb
(mechanical) To cut an internal screw thread.
"To thread", "to tap", "to do a thread", "to do threading" all mean the same exact thing to me. You are saying you can do one but not the other, and it does not make sense.

Would you please explain in detail what you are doing, what your part looks like, what you expect the result to be, and what error you are getting. And provide a FreeCAD file. It is a little frustrating to have to pull information from you.

From what I understand it's a question of doing an inner and an outer thread, like using Taps and dies (to be confirmed by joi80).

Threads - Two Approaches:
#1 - Make thread shape (External or Internal) and Loft it using Helix as Path

#2 - Use something like the Fastener Workbench. Use a Bolt/Screw for External Threads and Cut the Head off and add what you need. Could also Bury the Head in a Padded feature. Can add a Pad for extending the shaft length…

Examples Using the Two Approaches:

[Using #1] External threads, Photo#1:
Make a Helix and Loft with the shape of the External Thread.
Then, add the Inner shape (such as for Shaft or Bolt or Screw…etc).
Can add a Hex-Head or make a SHCS (Socket Head Cap Screw) etc.

[Using #1] Internal threads encased in Padded Hex, Photo#2
Make a Helix and Loft with the shape of the Internal Thread.
Then, add the Outer shape (such as for Shaft or Hex or or whatever needs the internal thread.

[Using #2] External threads, Photo#3
Using Fastener Workbench, Use desired Bolt/Thread.
Cut off the Head and Add a Padded Feature.
Example shows a Partially cut-off head just to demonstrate.

[Using #2] Internal threads, Photo#4
Using Fastener Workbench, Use desired Nut/Thread.
Surround the Nut with desired Padded shape.

You’ll need to be familiar with PartDesign Workbench and moving features into a Body…

And after 7 replies (not counting oldmachine's), jio80 still has not provided a file here.

Some people really, really make it hard to help them.

I'm done here, I have better things to do than ask again and again for the same thing. Good luck oldmachine. ;)

Would you mind correcting your post (in several places)? It's not Loft+Helix, it's Sweep+Helix.
