Using
Windows 10 Home
1809 ver. 10.0.17763 Build 17763.551809
64 bit

Just down-loaded the program and have been doing the simple part tutorial. Successful up to the part of the tutorial that discusses moving the part. It suggests using "toggle axes cross" in the view menu. It does nothing. On one help page I found, It indicated that this tool has a check box, but my download doesn't show one. I've tried it in "body", using "sketcher", "part design" and everything else with no joy. I suspect that this will be a very useful tool and am concerned some part of my software may be at fault. Any ideas what I could be doing wrong?

Talking about a tutorial it is very helpful to provide a link, e.g. like this: https://www.freecadweb.org/wiki/Creatin ... e_the_part

The object may hide the axis cross. Can you hide the object for a moment (select the body and hit the space bar). Can you see the axis cross now?
A Sketcher Lecture with in-depth information is available in English, auf Deutsch, en français, en español.

The Toggle Axes Cross definitely works. I use it all the time. (I wish it could be made sticky, but some folks think it is useless and should be removed.)

There are a couple of things that can cause difficulty.

* Your model is so far from the origin that the axes cross is not on screen. (Unlikely when following a tutorial.)

* The control is deactivated when another operation is in progress. Make sure the sketch is closed and that you do not see any yellow highlights in the model tree. Those highlights mean that something is still in the unfinished editing state. I don't understand why that matters, but it does. Other viewing functions like zoom, translate, and rotate still work fine.

Axis cross works as expected here. Note that it always keeps the same size in relation to the 3D view screen size.
