Object Transparency Issue

Post by Allelujah »

Hello everyone, I am new to the forums but have been using FreeCAD since 0.16. I havent used FreeCAD in months due to a graphical issue I seem to be still having and after doing some research into the matter, people have said its a graphics driver issue. Im on a Radeon RX 580 8GB graphics card with all up to date Drivers and am still getting this issue where the objects are transparent solids with a mix of wireframe. Not sure what all I need for computer specs for someone to help me but here is what I use. Also Has anyone gotten a fix yet? Or do I have to track down super old drivers that I am not sure if I can even find anymore?

Windows 10 64bit
Radeon RX 580 Graphics card
32GB of Ram
AMD FX-8150 Eight Core CPU

Also Note: I have tested both 0.16 and 0.17 of FreeCAD and get the same issue. Will post a pic below.

Please post the exact driver version number, statements like "the latest" are pretty much useless and often wrong.

It looks like you have transparency property set to something, mines looks similar when set to 40.

Have you checked with FreeCAD 0.18? when checking bugs its usually worth testing with the latest dev release as they are often already fixed.

Sorry about that lol. I was really tired and frustrated and must have not read everything I should have. Here is the info for FreeCAD that I been using. Also my transparency has always been set to 0. Have not tried 0.18 yet and would like to try it but not 100% entirely sure where to find it.

OS: Windows 10
Word size of OS: 64-bit
Word size of FreeCAD: 64-bit
Version: 0.17.13541 (Git)

Python version: 2.7.14
Qt version: 4.8.7
Coin version: 4.0.0a
OCC version: 7.2.0
Locale: English/UnitedStates (en_US)

Also Just woke up so not sure where to find the specific driver info in the AMD Radeon Adrenalin software so i hope it is in this batch of info.

Radeon Settings Version - 2018.1122.0419.7771
Driver Packaging Version - 18.40.11.09-181122a1-336248E-RadeonSoftwareAdrenalin

AMD Mantle API Version - Not Available
AMD Audio Driver Version - 10.0.1.7
Vulkan™ Driver Version - 2.0.55

Edit: Found 0.18 and it does seem to fix the issue. Going to play around with it and see if my models still look alright. Is there anything I need to know about 0.18 before i use it?

We have seen issues with Radeon cards before and the newest driver seems to be not always the best. See https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=30573.

Yeah, well with 0.18 I was able to model a gunpla stand just fine without any issues with the latest graphics driver that I know of as of this post. Still having issues with 0.16 and 0.17 so im just going to stick with 0.18 for now. Thanks for the help and recommending going to 0.18 to see if everything is fine with that. I Was getting stir crazy not being able to design stuff to 3D print. lol

Edit: Oh it looks like I got you and the other guy mixed up. Sorry again about that.

No worries. :)

That's kind if funny in a way, obviously you couldn't know but you just confused a German with me, and I live in the Australian outback.....Chris and I are about as far apart as you can be on the planet. Also Chris is a nice bloke where as I am a cranky sod who much prefers his cows over humans! Which is a good thing since there are far more cows around here than people. :D

Are you spending all your time on this again?

Ha! I missed that. Can I just say that my bull wants to join the FreeCow project because he thinks he would like to meet lots of free cows.

That's only a minor physical detail. In terms of our view on FreeCAD we are in fact very close
Also Chris is a nice bloke where as I am a cranky sod who much prefers his cows over humans!
I know some people over which I would take any cow you can think of.

Hi Jim,

Talking about cows, or rather bulls, has my namesake been turned into fillet mignon yet?

One of his animals was named Wally (Something? Don't recall) Norman Steve :D
