I use FreeCAD 0.17 and in part design I use the sweep function.
Error message "failed to valid broken face.
I can change to part wb and the sweep works.
It is just a circle and I try to sweep it along a path.

Re: Why can't I sweep
Have you taken the time to do a forum search? You would have found countless forum topics about it. The "failed to valid broken face" message means that your profile sketch is not closed, therefore it cannot generate a face from it.
But since you say this is only a circle, then something weird is happening. As detailed in the forum rules:

First I did profile, path
then I use the sweep function the last sketch is used automatic.
And it tries to sweep the arc arround the circle.
I just changed the order and did the path first, and it worked out.
