Word size of OS: 32-bit
Word size of FreeCAD: 32-bit
Version: 0.18.16000 (Git)
Build type: Release

Python version: 2.7.15rc1
Qt version: 5.9.5
Coin version: 4.0.0a
OCC version: 7.3.0
Locale: English/UnitedStates (en_US)

and works using:

OS: Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS
Word size of OS: 32-bit
Word size of FreeCAD: 32-bit
Version: 0.17.13541 (Git)
Build type: Release

Maybe one of those bugs only appearing with the AppImage build ?
AFAIK, there seems to be some with the recent releases.

This Qt5/py3 Appimage works fine:
OS: Linux Mint 19
Word size of OS: 64-bit
Word size of FreeCAD: 64-bit
Version: 0.18.16079 (Git) AppImage
Build type: Release
Branch: master
Hash: 6363c90a20b296ab69d7b52230009928199d90df
Python version: 3.6.7
Qt version: 5.6.2
Coin version: 4.0.0a
OCC version: 7.3.0
Locale: English/Canada (en_CA)

OP states he is using Qt4/py2 v0.18.16079 Appimage. Is this Appimage still available somewhere? No Qt4/py2 version at https://github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD/releases.

Conda based AppImage uses Py3/Qt5. The one without Conda in the name is PPA based and uses Py2/Qt4. I see them both listed in 0.18_pre section of the releases page.

I can't reproduce on:

OS: Manjaro Linux
Word size of OS: 64-bit
Word size of FreeCAD: 64-bit
Version: 0.18.16027 (Git) AppImage
Build type: Release
Branch: master
Hash: ad28ba509579d11ac1c6966dedaa70eb6476182b
Python version: 3.6.7
Qt version: 5.6.2
Coin version: 4.0.0a
OCC version: 7.3.0
Locale: English/UnitedStates (en_US)

Curious thing in the bug report is
1. Open FreeCAD
2. Create a new document
3. Switch to the TechDraw workbench and "Insert a new default drawing page"
4. Crash.
I don't see that in the dropdown TechDraw menu. I see Insert a new Default Page

Quite right. Had my Condas and my AppImages mixed up.

The wording changed in v0.18.

This is as close as I can get to OP's environment. The only thing different is Debian GNU/Linux buster/sid vs Mint. Still works.
OS: Linux Mint 19 Tara
Word size of OS: 64-bit
Word size of FreeCAD: 64-bit
Version: 0.18.16079 (Git) AppImage
Build type: Release
Branch: master
Hash: 6363c90a20b296ab69d7b52230009928199d90df
Python version: 2.7.6
Qt version: 4.8.6
Coin version: 4.0.0a
OCC version: 7.3.0
Locale: Spanish/Chile (es_CL)

Anybody with a buster/sid environment want to give it a try? Otherwise I'm going to mark the ticket "can't replicate" and close it.

I took it to mean this one:
Image

or the first selection in the TechDraw pull-down menu...
