constraints
There is something basic that I do not understand with constraints. Even a simple rectangle gives under-constrained. Can anyone tell me the basics of this constraints thing?

Re: constraints
Welcome Glen,
very basically:
In a 3D modeler like FreeCAD, Creo, Solidworks etc. any geometry must be defined by it´s realtions to the origin and/or to other elements.
Some of them even refuse to create a feature if a sketch is not 100 % constrained.
A Rectangle needs a location of one element in space, lenghts and widths ( usually horizontal/vertical and equla lengths are defined automatically ) . So you must define these 3 elements
Chrisb has created a very good tutorial on sketches and constraining:

Re: constraints
In addition to what Harry said, a very simple test, at least conceptually, is whether any element (vertex, line, arc, etc.) can be moved by selecting and dragging with the mouse. If true, then the sketch is not "fully constrained."
