Extrude to Curved Surface

Post by gsandy »

I have extruded a channel through a curved surface and used Part WB - Split - Slice Apart to remove the channel portion that extends through the top. Does Freecad have an "Extrude to Curved Surface" feature?

I don't think the Part WB has that capability (and it seems to be a worthy feature request for the bug tracker). Part Design > Pad does work creating a Pad up to a curved surface.

Am I not understanding, aren't we just talking about a pocket?

Its more of a Pad than a Pocket. The channel is created from a sketch extruded on the face of another component (not shown).

I'm not quite sure if this should go into Part workbench, as Part WB provides currently none of such high level functions. Going the Part CSG approach where models are created from basic objects by boolean operations is very robust. I know that this approach has already been weakened, but why not just use the PartDesign WB for high level stuff?

You register in the bug tracker and create a new ticket of the type feature request.
