Your problem descriptions and what you are doing is very unclear to me. I don't know what it means if "all parts fall apart", and I have no idea what you tried to get them back together or in which way you modified them. It is unclear as well which steps you performed to export to pdf.

Of course it is helpful to have the big picture where you want to go, but if we should assist you we need more details what exactly you did. A helpful description tells almost every click from the start of FreeCAD, such as
- switch to workbench xyz
- select obj_abc in the tree
- select face_ejk
- apply function fuse, slice, cut, ...

This is done up to the point where your expectation and the result differ.

Hi Chris et. al

Fair comment and my apologies.

• Open file with the slices
• Sketch – Sketcher
• Edit new sketch – see attachement.
• Start deleting hole on left and moving others to fill new space
• All the lines move and the shapes of the holes change?? – see attachement.

Not sure how to keep the integrity of the overall box size and the holes?

Not sure what I am doing wrong. I am assuming the holes and shapes will move as complete holes.

??

Thank you all

Can I ask a side question??....How does one save the 2D image as a pdf. Everything I try ends up with blank page. I have been searching for this all week.

Sorry for the dumb question

Some times I am close sometimes I am not and because I try so many ways, I cannot remember what I did. As I said, I have been looking all week for the instructions. Here is what I got this afternoon

  • You ran into the so called "topological naming problem". Edges are automatically numbered by the system, and if you change the number of edges in a sketch the references become invalid or go to seemingly completely different sketches.

If you can upload the FCStd-file we can help you finding a way out of this.
  • The green lines come from a single B-spline which can most probably be replaced by an arc, making your model simpler and easier to look at.
  • For a pdf of a technical drawing you would like to use the TechDraw workbench. Turn the model in the right position, switch to TechDraw, create a new page, select the object(s) which you want to have on the pdf and add them to the page with the "Insert view in page" icon. Set the scale to your liking, and export with File->Export PDF.

You really have to learn with something simple.
In that second picture you have 1506 Degrees Of Freedom (DoF) - non of your edges are connected. Also that green lines - that is a BSpline - you don't need that here. Probabli pressed the wrong button - Polyline is just right next to B-Spline.
And for the second time - I already modeled that for you in a previous post (Page 1 post 8) - https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic. ... 75#p309385 . Why don't you use that?

I had thought foxint's model was based on yours, but you are right, it probably isn't.

Hi Guys
Hope you are all well.

May I bother you again. I am stuck again on importing dxf files. I could only find a video in German and that is not good for an english speaker.

I also have another question...I downloaded the latest version - but I thought we were on Version 19...
OS: Windows 10
Word size of OS: 64-bit
Word size of FreeCAD: 64-bit
Version: 0.18.16117 (Git)
Build type: Release
Branch: releases/FreeCAD-0-18
Hash: dbb4cc6415bac848a294f03b80f65e888d531742
Python version: 3.6.6
Qt version: 5.6.2
Coin version: 4.0.0a
OCC version: 7.3.0
Locale: English/Australia (en_AU)

I got a local CAD guy to do some work and he gave me a dxf file and I cannot import it... anyone like to help. Yes I know I am asking a lot.

If you are wondering if the watch box is made - no. The other CAD guy when overseas and I re-did his work in 2D Instead of the box I have 12 2D file that I plan to screw together.

Back to the problem now . I would like to import the dxf file and make some small modifications. A link to an English video would be good.

Thanks so much

Time for dinner as it is late here.

Dan

Have you tried using the legacy python importer? Using this option I am able to import the DXF.
