Countersinks - Unable to create with hole tool, or pad / minus

I'm having a terrible time making holes for countersinks; no matter what I do they just don't seem to appear properly.

In the attached file, I have a box made up of six pieces of wood. I have placed a sketch on the XY plane of the base piece of wood with a couple circles I'd like to use for countersinks.

Procedure 1:
1) Doubleclick base to make active part
2) Select sketch / holes by clicking "sketch005" in base_plank part
3) Select Create a Hole icon from "Part design" toolbar
4) Fill in "Hole cut" details

However, no change in "hole cut" details results in anything other than a circle from the sketch being drawn. I can't seem to get it to actually make the hole

Procedure 2:
1) Doubleclick base to make active part
2) Select sketch / holes by clicking "sketch005" in base_plank part
3) Select pad icon from "Part design" toolbar, enter .25
4) Select pad, select base_plank, use "make a cut of two shapes" icon from "part" toolbar

Now the part seems to disappear, I'm not sure what happens in this case. I do notice the cut appears outside of the base part for some reason.

Any pointers in the right direction would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

Hello and welcome to the FreeCAD Forum.

Just click the OK button, select Hole in model tree, change the property Reversed to true.
By again double clicking on Hole in model tree you can make your settings and see directly the result in 3D view.
