mesher: what does option "Two-side rendering"

Postby uwestoehr » Thu Jul 18, 2019 11:52 pm

I am currently documenting the mesher settings and have a question.

When you are in the mesh toolbar and open the FC preferences you see in section Display -> Mesh view the option Two-side rendering.
What does the option exactly?

If it's on then the bottom side of the surface will be rendered the same way is the top side. If it's off then it depends on the setting of the backlight color (under Display > 3D view). If it's enabled the defined color will be used, otherwise it's black.

Many thanks. In I will document this later today and send a PR for the tooltips of this dialog.

Thanks.
Here is the documentation: https://www.freecadweb.org/wiki/Prefere ... #Mesh_view
I also made a PR to add missing tooltips in the masher display settings dialog.

Display settings
This preferences section has up to 3 tabs:
and then there are 4. Maybe explaining in previous section where "late" loading is described that WB loading can add settings to existing relevant setting groups...

And latest Part Design has preferences.

Thanks for doing all this documentation work!

The other preferences on the linked page are general settings, while workbench specific settings are rather documented on an own page (e.g. Draft) or on the workbench's page (e.g. sketcher). You may consider handling mesh preferences in the same way. There is already an entry in the "Workbench preferences" list for "Mesh Design Preferences".

We had some discussions about this. The outcome is that preferences section "General" and "Display" are explained in Preferences_Editor. This page links to the preferences section "Import-Export" which is documented in Import_Export_Preference. It also links to the Workbench-specific pages.

In the Workbench-specific pages we link back to Preferences_Editor if a workbench has additional tabs in the 3 global preferences sections.

There is no better solution yet until the workbenches are uniformed: all workbench-specific settings will appear in one preferences section for the workbench. At the moment we have a mixture. E.g. the file settings of the Arch and Draft WB are always shown, no matter if you used these WBs or not. All other WBs will only show their tabs if one used or is using it.
