Can't scale an imported mesh

Postby a3bksll47 » Fri Jul 19, 2019 8:30 pm

I try importing objects from Blender, but if I need to scale them, they will visibly scale in the FreeCAD viewport, but when I go to save the file the objects vanish.

(I made the edges and primary mass in 5 separate components to convey a pseudo-diffractive effect. None of the components save when rescaled.)

It works here when I use the scale function from the Mesh Design workbench. How did you scale?

Please attach your full FreeCAD info as described in the IMPORTANT forum rules linked above.

Build type: Release

01.png is after I clicked into the central portion of the construct.

02.png is after I pressed the <Scales the selected object> button (S, C). Mouse is subsequently loosely hovered over the central portion of the construct.

03.png is after I left clicked into the central portion of the construct. I then pressed radio button <Modify original>.

04.png shows the X value is resulting in a real time change in that coordinate.

05.png is after I press <OK> sometimes. 06.png is after I press <OK> most of the time.

I don't know how to do this I guess.

Here's 06.png, because it wouldn't upload in the prior post:

Ok now trying to do this in Mesh Design, but none of the edits I'm trying to make in its Data tab is working for me.

Update:
Oh, it's under the menu at Meshes! Scale... and not on the toolbar. But it's only uniform, there's no X, Y, Z options.

I guess I'll have to try the Boolean operation listed.

Thanks all.

I have not tried it, but generally you should be able to convert your mesh to a solid, then you could use the non-uniform scale function, then convert the result to a mesh again.

I don't know how either or even if there is a way.

It looks like louvre_edges has flipped normals and other issues. You can check it in Mesh Design using Analyze tool.

If you don't know how to convert to a solid, it is done in Part workbench -> Create shape from mesh. Then once converted you can use Draft scale tool.

Thanks. I'll try to see what's going on in that in a few days. I hope the file size comes down as a result too.
