External geometry vs Shape Binder vs Carbon Copy

Post by lrochfort »

Hi all,

Could somebody please explain the difference between the external geometry, shape binder, and carbon copy tools, and give examples of when you'd use one rather than the other?

Many thanks.

In brief:

external geometry.. INSIDE a single Body , avoid referencing edges of features, rather reference sketch elements.Use when referencing few objects from one ore more previous sketches.
carbon copy: Use when referencing and directly using several elements from previous sketches. Cannot reference feature edges . Can copy across bodies and across planes .
Shapebinder: Use to reference elements from other bodies. Can reference nearly everything into new body but cannot directly be used ( as a carbon copy would be ) .

I describe in some of my latter videos..

Hi,
I remember this topic has been discussed several times on the forum. You can probably get useful information using the search. ;)
