Paraview 5.4.1 Problems With FC 0.18
Hi All,
First off, I'm very inexperienced in Paraview, starting from scratch in 3D drafting and certainly CFD.
I have been using FreeCAD 0.17 and CfdOF for a year with great results. Recently moved to FreeCAD 0.8 and now having problems with Paraview 5.4.1. It will load from FreeCAD and from my Praview icon but I cannot do anything. It crashes and hangs up of I try to load a state or select open. It just sits there with no response and I have to end the task to shut it down. So I downloaded PV 5.4.1 but no change and then downloded PV 5.7.0 and it works fine. But I can't run it from CfdSolver or import my CfdOF case into this later Paraview version. So I'm confused, is there a way to get CfdSolver to start PV 5.7.0?
Anyone else having this problem and any suggestions please.
Thanks in anticipation.
Michael

You should probably ask in the FEM/CFD subforum. I know that the CfdOF project is under heavy development, so Oliver, the developer, generally recommends to try with the latest version of CfdOF, Paraview, and OpenFOAM. Also try with the latest version of FreeCAD, 0.19.Crossleyuk wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2019 11:01 pm First off, I'm very inexperienced in Paraview, starting from scratch in 3D drafting and certainly CFD.

Or are you saying that this is a general problem of FreeCAD?

Thank you, must admit that I'm still not sure of the details of the FC Forum approach. I know Oliver very well now so will trouble him with it now
By the way, I did get a great result from Paraview 5.4.1 but just couldn't save.
Cheers and thanks again, I hadn't picked up FreeCAD 0.19. I'll also look into that while I'm making changes!

The latest version of FreeCAD is 0.18.3. There is no 0.19 (yet). See the release table here:vocx wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2019 12:11 am You should probably ask in the FEM/CFD subforum. The order of the page is a bit confusing. But there is a 0.19_pre section.rhombus wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2019 10:54 am The latest version of FreeCAD is 0.18.3. There is no 0.19 (yet). See the release table here:

Thanks, I'm onto it!
Re: Paraview 5.4.1 Problems With FC 0.18
Most developers develop and test their workbenches with the latest, unreleased development version, in this case 0.19. So that's the reason I and others recommend to try with 0.19. It's a quick check, and if it works, it's probably something that was already fixed. Otherwise, more thorough testing needs to be done.rhombus wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2019 10:54 am The latest version of FreeCAD is 0.18.3. There is no 0.19 (yet). See the release table here:

Likewise. That was a pretty trippy image you posted a few posts ago. Perhaps you would be open to creating some tutorial(s) ?Crossleyuk wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2019 4:26 pm Love working with you all on the Forum. Massive learning and experience tool!

Thank you Kunda?
Sounds great and certainly sounds like my fun thoughts. I'll have a think about that and take a look when I get my problems sorted out and some good 0.18+ examples.
This from my 0.17 modeling experience. Some explanations required.
Cheers and thanks for your interest.
