[Solved] Combining FCGear and Partdesign into one Solid

Post by hreintke »

Hi,

I am trying to get gears into my PartDesign solids.
Using the FCGear addon module, not the involutegear from partdesign, that provides more possibilities to adapt to my needs.

But then I always get 2 independent solids, One from the partdesign, one from the gear.
Don't know how to combine the two.

Any hint on how to proceed ?

Attached a very simple design to show the issue/problem.

Basically just select the Body and the Gear in the Tree view and use the Part Union on both solids (take care to select the Body itself, not its internal feature).
If you need to continue modeling, you can use the Fusion as the Base Feature of a new Body. To do so, simplest way is to select the Fusion in the Tree view and create a new Body.

NB : in your simplified example, it may have been simpler to first create the Gear, then select it when creating the new Body so the Gear is directly the BaseFeature of it. ;) You can fix it afterwards by using the Property Editor to set Gear as the Body BaseFeature. :)

Hi,

Thanks for the explanation, works.

In one of my many earlier trials suddenly had the BaseFeature included, however had no idea how it got there and how to reproduce. :)

Dropping the Gear onto the Body will also result in a BaseFeature.
