Tube|Pipe notch
Hello everyone,
New to Freecad (from mosty Inventor, but in my education also Solid Works and Solid Edge), just trying some stuff. I already searched the forum but could not find a satisfactory answer.
I don't know if it is the right English term, but I want to make a notch in a tube with an 45 degree angle. I already could make a datum plane with such an angle. Now I want to draw a circle with the same size on the showed datum plane as the pipe I want to notch.
The problem is, how can I 'align' the circle using for the pocket on the datum plane with the center of the end of the pipe (I marked it with a datum point) ? In that way I can cut the pipe exactly in the center of the end of the pipe.
In Inventor I would solve it with 'Project Geometry' and would use the circle from the end of the pipe. It would have shown as an Elips on the sketch and would take the centre. I tried with 'Create an edge Linked to a external Geometry' but that I couldn't figure out.
Maybe there is an easier way to do it, I would like to hear about it of course...

Re: Tube|Pipe notch
first
Welcome
so it is mutch easyer as you think
the 45Deg do not count as a simple notch
goto PART workbench (WB)
make a cube
position the cube with the right dimation in DATA where to cut
and make a boolean

Hi and welcome to the forum!
You can attach the DatumPlane with attachment mode "Concentric" to the end of the tube. This is ok, but not the most robust possibility. For that you should attach it to a sketch or one of the main planes plus using an expression to get the offset.

Re: Tube|Pipe notch
For designing in piping you should study the "Dodo"workbench.
Also the Arch workbench has some simple piping functions

Hi Gatze, welcome to the forum! I'll add another method. For your first attempt you could try making the notch at the Origin end of the pipe because it's easier to use the Data Tab > Property > Attachment Offset to rotate the Sketch around the origin than to try and rotate the Sketch to match the other end of the pipe. Here's an example done in the Part Design WB:Gatze wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2019 7:13 pm I want to make a notch in a tube with an 45 degree angle. I already could make a datum plane with such an angle. Re: Tube|Pipe notch
Thank you all for the respons, I will look into the Workbenches. I can reproduce the last post, thanks !
Following thing I want to try is that for welding it is desirable that the thickness of the notch is the same all around, so I want the surface of the end of the pipe 90 degree to the axis of the pipe. I attached an image. First I try myself, if I cannot figure it out the I come back here

Thank you,

This is what I'm looking for:

But I don't think it is possible, I have try still.

In the Part workbench you can use this cutout function
