Best way for first hand on FreeCAD 0.18 ?

Post by vincen »

Hi

I'm just starting with FreeCAD to design my first 3D part to print. Unhappy I discover that the 0.18 version of FreeCAD has been a major change compared to previous versions and most tutorials I can find online are obsolete as based on previous versions of FreeCAD :(
I have checked also here the Wiki and Forum but unhappy not much more useful ! Any advices where I can find that ? or it doesn't exist yet ? and have to use old tutos and find out how to adapt them with new version......

Thanks a lot for help,

Vincèn

Hi Vincèn and welcome to the forum! I did a quick search for "YouTube FreeCAD 0.18 tutorial" and that resulted in many hits, and some more video tutorials are listed here:

If you can post a simple hand drawing of what you want to model we can probably help you get started.

I want to design a part that I'm going to mold in Silicone, so basically I need to design the part, "reverse" it or perhaps just cut it in two considering that all volumes are "contained" so perhaps no need to reverse the part for mold print.....

I'm not sure to understand the drawing very well, but you can start like this:
Choose the main axle of the object. Here can the Z axle.
Then draw a first sketch to make the cylinder. Sketch will be on XY plane.
You need to know the two diameters to constraint the circles.
Select pad to extrude the main body, and enter the right length....

Thanks at all for answers and suggestions ;) and sorry yep for doing drawing in the wrong way :?
@pl7i92LCNC yep you got it, it's exactly the idea, now I need to improve it which should be easier with base done and going to check how you have built it to learn curves of FC ! And then will have to find out how to transform the whole thing in container for a silicon mold :D

So I continued on your file to adjust size for what I want to get, but I'm killing my head on that simple issue. As I have growed the central part now the side parts are mixed in structure and I'm enable to find what determines their position regarding the tube :(

Thanks
