flat solid spiral shape

Post by japie »

Hello guys,

I'am running into trouble with creating a spiral shape with a "flat" surface, the black part rotates and inside are 3 plungers with a spring beneath that presses them against the upper part so when rotating they are pressed downwards, the upper part with the helix must be flat but I don't know how...

I tried different approaches and with a helix and a sweep I get the wanted result partly but I can't create a half clockwise helix and an anti-clockwise one in one path.
creating a subtractive sweep along the "cut" path of attached file didn't work out as wanted also.

My understanding of what you want is different: If you want a helix with a flattened end you can try macro FCSpring_Helix_Variable (left in the image) or Curves workbench's compression spring (right).

Hello
I have to redo trukplaat (35mm height , 65mm for the angle) and cut it in half (green)
I draw 3 new sketches for the profil of came (1 or 2 arn't work)
Do a sweep betwen this 3 sketches to use the half side of your trukplaat as path in Partwb (impossible to use soustract-pipe in Partdesign) and do miror , add booleen , refine =true

Hello guys, thanks for all the help!

I tried a lot off things you pointed out to me and also a macro to wrap a sketch around a cylinder but whatever I do no way I end up with a 100% result (yet)
The best results so far are with lofting several sketches along a path like papyblaise pointed out but even then not completely:

Ok the inside cylinder isn't circular but that come from AdditivePipe who is some time funy
If you soustract a cylinder the came is better looking (maybe)
and whit that your rampe is alway perpendicular and the start and top is flat , not whith an angle if you use a helix

I am not very good with PartDesign WB, so I have not been able to do it with this workflow.
But here is a possible solution : use the angled section of the cylinder (green below), as a sweep path with mode "Binormal" and binormal vector set to (0,0,1)

Works equivalent in PartDesignbut the vector has to be (0,1,0).
