Unable to import circular shapes from dxf-file

Postby cronic.se » Sat Nov 30, 2019 12:58 pm

Hi

I have a very frustrating issue.
I'm trying to import a simple .dxf-file from Adobe Illustrator but all that gets imported to freecad is the non-circular objects.

I have tried this in Freecad 0.17 och 0.18 and also tried to change many export settings in illustrator and import settings in freecad.
See attached pictures.

Can't understand why I don't get it to work.
Would be glad for some help.

Thanks.

Try importing the .dxf into LibreCAD & see if you can see anything that is different about the circular shapes. Are they on a different layer? Does that layer have attributes that are different from the visible shapes?

I've had a similar issue with furniture designs I downloaded. I haven't solved my particular issue yet, but LibreCAD did treat the shapes that weren't imported differently from the rest.

I would not use a DXF-file for transfering the geometry from Adobe to FreeCAD. The DXF-capabilties of FreeCAD are limited due to the proprietary file format. You may try to get a PDF from Adobe Illustrator and import it in Inkscape. Then save the geometry as SVG in Inkscape and import this in FreeCAD. The chances are better, that you get a sufficient result.

Thanks Ulrich
SVG was the answer.
I exported it from Illustrator to SVG and then imported it to FreeCAD.
It worked strait away.
Thanks again.
