How to set electronic part legs colour?
It is my first try to do what I need with FC (I use 0.18 Windows 7 64 bit)
In thread:
https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=42110
I've got from Willem the file: diode-willem.FCStd.
I found how to change its colour (Body->Property->View->Shape Color).
I found how to change legs colour (Chamfer->right click->Set colors...).
I'm happy with the result (screen shot attached) but....
When I save the file (File -> Save As and NewName.FCStd) and then open it my Shape Colour setting is OK, but my legs color setting is lost and legs have the same colour as the body.
I am no familiar with FC concepts, specially regarding colors (reading about FC and some workbenches I didn't noticed any information about colors settings). So what is going on:
- it is a bug and legs colour should be saved to file,
- it is a bug and FC should not allow me to set legs colour as the Body is assumed to be made of one material so one colour,
- it is OK and everyone knows that colour setting sometimes is only temporary just to help distinguish part fragments,
- the element made of different materials should be defined as Part and not Body,
- others?
What I should do to have element with black body and light gray legs?

In Part design you can do only one color for a body.
When you design in the Part workbench you can use more colors for a boolean union.

Re: How to set electronic part legs colour?
Thanks. I think now I have all what I need to do rest myself.
Now I don't know yet the sequence of operations to get the file like that but it should be only a question of some experiments.
I didn't read about Part workbench (I hoped Pard Design + Sketcher + A2plus + TechDraw + KiCadStepUp (it suggest also to use Manipulator and Defeaturing) would be enough for me).

@ Openbrain
With Appearence you can color objects and no individual faces. In Freecad 0.16 you could do individual faces but that is over now

Re: How to set electronic part legs colour?
In Part design and Part, if I click on a face and set the appearance the whole object changes color. Am I missing something?

Hi
The differance Partdesign againth Part is : in Partdesign you have to draw each element in one distinct Body and color it : you have 3 separate parts ; in Part you can color each part in the same fusion and have in fact one part

Re: How to set electronic part legs colour?
Ok, so I can think of a couple ways to do it...but, I'm wondering what is the best/easiest way.
How do you model this so that the color of the ends and body can be separate colors:
