Need help with creating curved shape with different heights

Post by soulofdestiny »

Hi Guys,

first time posting here, using FreeCAD for about two weeks, did a lot of tutorials and was able to already create two simple cases for electronics.
I'm working as Software Engineer so technical background is present.

Though I'm really struggling since a few days now with a particular design I want to make.
It is about creating a curved object, which starts at e.g. height 10mm and should end at 5mm with a smooth transition between

I was trying a lot, mainly with Part Design workbench and sketches, because that was what most tutorials were about and in which I feel most comfortable with after two weeks of using FreeCAD.

However, I think I'm pretty close to solving it, but cannot figure out the last step (or more easier ways which pretty sure exists)
Since explaining the issue in writing is not really easy, I tried to come up with two screenshots which hopefully visualize my idea a bit more.

so my idea was to create two sketches (start and end) and then sweep along a third sketch which resulted in following solid
(I also tried around with more sketches and loft, but this really resulted into weird results)

so my two goals are: the Height of A should end up at the Height of B/2 with a smooth transition in the outer path
and ideally I also want to have the Connecting point C curved, so the distance between the outer and the inner path stays the same.

Hope you got my idea.

Thanks for any advice in advance.

cheers,
Matthias

Welcome to the forum.
This can best be done in the Part workbench, so not the part design workbench.
Part workbench has a fillet where you can use a variable radius

Thanks.

you mean for the Edge at C, right?
I played around with variable radius, but I'm not quite figuring out how to use that for my first problem, because the height still stays the same, just the "roundness" is different. But also nice to know this for future uses =)

awesome mate! Thanks so much, I knew I was kinda close and even think I checked this multisection setting once, but most likely in a wrong way.
Thanks again!

cheers and happy weekend everyone :)
