Step file size too big

Hello Freecaders,

I am wondering how exactly FreeCAD does this:

- I receive a rather complex .stp file in FreeCAD that is about 3 MB in size.
- I remove parts of it.
- I export it as step: and it is now 10 MB.

In short, I feel like FreeCAD exports .stp files a lot bigger than I feel it should.

Perhaps I'm the problem? Can anyone enlighten me?

What version are you using. In Freecad 0.19 are a lot of improvements as you can see here https://wiki.freecadweb.org/Import_Export_Preferences
