Using Arch windows from parts_library

Post by fedelop »

Hi every one! Please be patient, I'm less than a beginner.
Installed Freecad, followed a few Arch Workbench tutorials from Yorik but I got stuck with the parts_library windows.
When I insert one of the first 8 preset windows in the windows option preset list everything goes well. But when I try to insert a window from the parts library (agains all odds I managed to install it and even got the full preset list in the windows options dialog) I pick an Arch wall face and nothing happens, no window insertd on the model tree, of course nothing new on the 3D model.

What puzzles me is that it works fine with the first 8 preset windows on the list.

My setup:
OS: Windows 10
Word size of OS: 64-bit
Word size of FreeCAD: 64-bit
Version: 0.18.4 (GitTag)
Build type: Release
Branch: releases/FreeCAD-0-18
Hash: 980bf9060e28555fecd9e3462f68ca74007b70f8
Python version: 3.6.6
Qt version: 5.6.2
Coin version: 4.0.0a
OCC version: 7.3.0
Locale: Spanish/Spain (es_ES)

I haven't tried every parts_library windows but it seems not all were created like the built-in Preset Windows, so something may not work perfectly.

You can always do a custom window reading through the wiki / tutorial, then I suppose you can able to 'fix' the part_library windows also.

Maybe someone else have done something and comments ? :)

I'll try to make my own custom windows. It would be great to contribute by trying to make the parts_libraary windows work. :) But first I think someone should reproduce this error and confirm the problem is on the part_library models so I do not try to fix something that's not broken.

I am interested in learning how you accomplished this.

I followed the instructions from the github parts_library download page: https://github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD-library
You have to scroll down to the Install section.
The Addons Manager took too long so I went with the manual installation route.
If I did it anyone can do it, trust me. :D

But what do you mean by 'even got the full preset list in the windows options dialog'?

Roy_043, please look at the attached image.
English is not my mother tongue, perhaps my words were not well chosen.

I remember @Yorik mention the Arch Window Dialog will look into the Part_Library to add to the 'preset windows' list.

So with addition of new Windows files in the Part_Library, the list there grows.

A handy way to increase the library - peoples just need to update the AddOn, rather than need Devs to hardcode every new Windows in the Build and make every releases.

Thanks for clarifying.

I confirm that this does not work as intended. You're better off inserting these library windows with the macro (PartsLibrary.FCMacro) and then manually adjusting their position (see here).

Well, I've been trying to fix just one of the library doors from the parts library (Double doors with glass.FCStd) and failed miserably. Can´t make it work as the first presets, same problem as my first post. Not sure what am I doing wrong. It's very frustrating trying to make a contribution and not achieving something that seems to be quite simple.
