printing a face to scale

Post by sonicnuance »

Hello,
I have a 3D object and want to print one of the faces in 2D but to scale. I got the face isolation (use part workbench
select item
from top menu, select Part->CrossSection
move position so select cross section
select the “section” button)

Any tips on how to do the printing to scale, I'm not having any luck.

Thanks,
sonic

P.S. I am using FreeCAD0.12 as 0.13 kept crashing. I'm using a MAC

What version of MacOS X?

Printing to scale in FreeCAD is problematic, even more so with older versions. I suggest you try this build based on the current v0.14 development branch which might help (if it doesn't, then testing would be welcome plus it comes with a boatload of new features over the now deprecated v0.12). viewtopic.php?f=4&t=4464

If you search the forum about this question which gets asked from time to time, you might find a proposed workaround by triplus about exporting to svg then using Inkscape.

My apologies. I am using 10.7.5 OSX

I'll give the 0.14 a try

Unfortunately 0.14 doesn't appear to be available with OSX 10.7

I tried 0.13 and still have no luck

Did you actually try it? I built it on 10.6, so it should run on anything newer.

In peterl94's topic, people said they made it work on OS X 10.8, so there is no reason it shouldn't work on 10.7...

When I want to print something to scale I export it to DXF and then open it in draftsight and print it from there.
Only downside is FC is still having issues exporting elipses to DXF so that can cause problems.
