STEP files

Post by Jenjack »

I have just started to us FreeCAD for viewing STEP files. Is there a way to create a cross section with these files?

There are several ways:
- Part SliceApart
- Part CrossSection in the wiki to be found as Part SectionCross
- Macro "cross section", to be installed via Addon manager
- TechDraw SectionView
- And the manual way: Use a big cube and cut it from the Step object.

The Std_ToggleClipPlane command may also work.

Thank you for this explanation.
How do I show a section that does not make the thickness of the parts look hollow?

Read the Notes paragraph of the Std_ToggleClipPlane documentation.

This doesn't appear to do what I want.
I am looking to see the thickness of the walls of the parts appear solid in a section view.

I have set up my preferences to receive emails when someone replies but I'm not getting any. What should I be doing?

You should be a little clearer about what you are doing. You have received several suggestions. So I am clueless as to what you mean by 'this'.

If you are talking about the Std_ToggleClipPlane command:
Note that you can choose black for the Backlight color. Which should give the illusion of a solid object (provided there is only one clipping plane).

If one of the methods mentioned doesn't match your desires, you should try another. Did you try all the methods mentioned above?

Before I try any of the suggestions I need to make sure you understand what it is I'm trying to achieve. I have attached a jpeg file showing two images. A is what I get when using Clipping plane. B is what I'm trying to achieve.

Does this help?
