adding help to Freecad .19

Post by 56jimalexander »

I've started using Freecad .19. In Freecad .18 I enjoyed the context sensitive help feature. When I select it in .19 It tells me I'm missing some files.
Investing I've discovered there's a number of downloads required to make this happen. I've downloaded FreeCAD.0_18.Offline.Doc. Not sure where to put this. I see a location src/doc. Is this within the Freecad appdata? ProgramData? Or is it a Windows location?
I could use some help here. Detailed would be best as I'm still coming up to speed (slowly) with the FreeCad lingo.
Thanks in advance,
Jim

I've already got the 2 files extracted from this download. I'm not able to see from these instructions where to put these files or the folder itself.
FreeCAD.0_18.Offline.Doc: folder
doc: folder within this folder
freecad.qch: file
freecad.qhc: file
Are you able to tell me where to put these 2 files?
Thanks Roy,
Jim

You can put them anywhere. But as explained in the linked document you need to register them with Qt Assistant.

No that is not correct. At least not for Windows.

Press F1 (or select Help > Help from the menu) and a dialog will inform you were FreeCAD expects to find those files.

OK..I've got these files in the right place but now when I select help it is telling me I need QT assistant. No luck downloading QT. I go to the QT.io site and choose open source download. It tells me it's downloading but nothing is happening.
I don't understand why, If FreeCad .18 works properly, these files aren't already where they need to be.
Frustrated,
Jim

I do not know why you are prompted to download QT Assistant. All I have to do is put the files in the correct location. Maybe it is the QT version?

Aha, that is helpful. Your problem is related to using the Conda package. I get the same message when I use that version. Try installing the LPv package instead.
