Export Selected Surfaces

Postby Juanilogo » Wed May 05, 2021 1:49 pm

Hello,
I want to export the selected faces from different Solids (marked in green) as a .stl. keeping the relative position to each other.

I try to do it selecting them with Mouse+Ctrl. and clicking to export as .stl.

But unfortunately, I become an export of the complete solids where I selected at least one face, and not in the same relative position to each other.

How can I do that?

Hi and welcome to the forum!

I'm not sure if non solids are well defined in stl format, but FreeCAD can well create them:
- Use Draft->downgrade. Note that this doesn't preserve your object
- select the faces
- export.

if you have a heavy model, doing the full downgrade can be slow.

with curves wb "extract" you can pick up only the wanted faces,
and with part wb "compound" you can get it to act as one.

something like this

My favorite workflow is to select the faces then use Part->Create a copy->Sub element copy. Then Select the copies and export.
