I've been in the CAD trenches for 45+ years and used FreeCAD for the better part of the last 10...and I learn something new almost every day.

You can revolve a half ball sketch to make a ball, you can create a sketch on a standard plane and offset the sketch using properties. Go to your origin and select XY_plane for instance and create sketch.
