Centre mouse button does not cause rotate

Post by jondane »

OS: Windows 10
Word size of OS: 64-bit
Word size of FreeCAD: 64-bit
Version: 0.18.4 (GitTag)
Build type: Release
Branch: releases/FreeCAD-0-18
Hash: 980bf9060e28555fecd9e3462f68ca74007b70f8
Python version: 3.6.6
Qt version: 5.6.2
Coin version: 4.0.0a
OCC version: 7.3.0
Locale: English/UnitedKingdom (en_GB)

I have just started to learn FreeCAD. I have watched Jayanam's "FreeCAD Tutorial for Beginners" on YouTube. A fundamental problem is that moving the mouse with the centre button pressed does not rotate the view - it just moves it. Doing the same thing with the shift, ctrl or alt keys pressed at the same time makes not difference.

For many years I used Pro Desktop, but with Windows 10 it stopped working properly. However, the same technique of rotating a a view works properly when pressing the centre button. This suggests that my system (PC with Windows 10) is working normally and interpreting mouse movements correctly.

Hello jondane! Welcome to FreeCAD and the forum :)
Perhaps "Blender Navigation" is closer to what you desire?

Hi, thank you. Left+middle does allow rotation. Strangely, middle on its own worked briefly. Is there a setting to determine which navigation style is currently in use?

Best regards

You can see it in the bottom line of the Window, using the right mouse menu in 3D view, then a hook is set in the Navigation styles sub menu. And finally you can see it in Preferences->Display->Navigation->3D Navigation.
A Sketcher Lecture with in-depth information is available in English, auf Deutsch, en français, en español.

Thank you. I have chosen Revit which I find most intuitive.
