How to extrude certain parts?

Postby cowmegalul » Tue May 18, 2021 4:27 am

Hello,

I'm having trouble figuring out how to extrude the borders of my model.
The model I have is a keyboard top-down and I'm trying to figure out how to get the borders of the model and the plate of the keyboard to extrude.

Is it possible to have the frame of the keyboard and the plate as the keyboard as two separate entities to extrude?

I want to extrude the frame of the keyboard and the plate of the keyboard after. The model has blockers that are part of the frame of the case which I would want to extrude simultaneously.

How do I approach this?

Thanks!

(blockers connect to the frame, they are part of the frame).

I think you will get more help if you simplify your example. How about drawing some kind of box or box top and put one or two holes in it, then ask some basic questions.

For an extrude into a solid you need a closed set of lines without intersections, without T-joins. It can contain at most one inner such loop.

You have a set of single lines and I would recommend to create a sketch from all the lines you need and use this as a master sketch. Use the Sketch validation tool to connect the open vertices. Then clean the sketch with the trim tool. Replace unnecessaryly divided lines by single ones.

Then use this master sketch with carbon copy for you separate extrudes. You can quickly remove unneded lines.
A Sketcher Lecture with in-depth information is available in English, auf Deutsch, en français, en español.
