Hi

I have very often the same problem with step or stl files with the origin far away form the freecad origin. With folowing workaround can I replace the step model to the origin.

First center the model with the Manipulator WB. Select the desired face witch you want to have on the origin.

Replace it with the align tool from Manipulator WB

Now with Part WB make a compound and from the compund a simple copy

The copy is now placed as you may wanted. The nice colors get lost and if you don't need the single parts this would be an easy way to replace the plug to the Freecad origin.

Hope this helps

Could this be automated (=fewer clicks and streamlined) and transformed into a feature request?

well i cheated. took the file to fusion 360 and opened it there, did a move/translate to xyz origin (less than 5 minutes)...export step and import in to freecad.

while this did work there really should be an easier way in freecad. I really want to get away from fusion 360 completely

Following the forum, there is everyday something to learn. In this case it's edwilliams' macro: https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic. ... 97#p510397

What didn't work? How did you attempt to use it? Make sure you have the most recent version: https://wiki.freecadweb.org/Macro_MoveToOrigin
