STEP Assemblies Now Open As Single Solids

Post by duckmug »

I was using Freecad 18 before which was from the ubuntu repos and opening an step assembly would open it as an assembly.

Now I am on the latest version of Freecad from the freecad repos and the same STEPs open as single parts.

Is there any setting for fixing this?

I found the solution, disabling compound merge in step import settings fixes it.

with one challenge:
The tool will also explode non-compound shapes into their lower-level constituents: compsolids into solids, solids into shells, shells into faces, faces into wires, wires into edges, edges into vertices.
for me the compound is exploded into about 32000 `Compound.NN` objects....
and that takes >45minutes or so - if i try to save the file it takes >1h....
(most of the parts are edges and so on... only a handful are the *solids*)
