Sketch Mapping And Origin

Postby duckmug » Tue Jun 15, 2021 8:28 pm

I am slightly confused with something. Say I create a new sketch and draw what I want around the origin.

I can easily create symmetry and other things because it's centered around point 0 and I can relate it with the axis etc. So far so good.

Then I want to map it to a very specific point on the face of the body.

You can see the attached photo.

I suspect that moving the sketch placement in order to map it is not the right approach.

I saw some using datum planes but I also saw others recommend against it.

So what is the ideal way to create the sketch around point 0 / origin, relate it with the axis etc and then map it exactly on a specific area on a face of the body?

You need to provide a specific example.

Placing something on generated geometry such as a face is not a good idea due to the topological naming problem.

Another stable solution is - besides placing everything on the main planes - to use references to sketches and using expressions.

Thanks a lot, very insightful. I will avoid doing that from now and on and do according to the guide.
