Importing Step, but can't get a BaseFeature

Post by jgauthier »

I got a STEP file, and imported it. In the past, I've been able to add a body, get a BaseFeature and start doing sketches to pads/pockets.
However, when I import this one, adding a body does not create a BaseFeature. I suspect it's because there appears to be different objects in it. I'm not quite sure what to do with this one. Perhaps one of the many import options would help me solve it.

A BaseFeatures get created when a solid is dropped into a Body, not a Part object.

Get rid of the Part (yellow step icon), create a Body, drag the step solid of interest out of the Part object and drop it on the document to take it out of the step Part object and then drag it into the Body.

Oh, got it!

I deleted the yellow part and selected "No" - do not delete the sub parts.
Then I made a body and dropped one in.
Then I made another body and dropped the other in.

Now I can mod each.

Thanks for the explanation!

Depending on the step immport preferences you get different objects - as you did - or only one single object.
