[SOLVED] Problems with deformed loft and Fillet

Post by Spindoctor »

Hello!

I try to design a part with a loft replicated nine times to assemble them to fins. However, I have two problems:

(1) My loft looks somehow deformed in the middle

(2) I would like to round the edges marked green on the screenshot (for all lofts, not just for the one highlighted), but the fillet tool fails whatever I try to make it work.

Can you give me some hints on how to correct these issues?

Please find my example attached.

Thank you in advance!

That's only a visual thing. Set the Deviation in the View attributes of the body to 0.1 and it will look good.

Oh, I see!

So (1) is solved. Thank you @chrisb!

What about (2)? Is there a manual solution to add a fillet or can Part Design Fillet be tricked to perform a meaningful fillet?

fillets are a tricky business and you case is quit complicated - freecad crashes a lot here for me

it all comes down to edge flow and will a fillet fit.
to have good flows make edges fillets flow over tangent

your loft sits on ring edge of the revolve and that can spell errors already

I pre rounded the revovle body edges

your model is also very small by the way

Thank you @Cekuhnen!

With rounding the ring I was able to get a fillet with 0,2 mm radius - this should be enough.

Thank you for your help!

Out of interest: why do you think the model is small? I mean, it is just a minimal example with just the features in question, but the "real" model is also not much bigger than that...

i guess in cad scale is subjective - i wasn't sure if you were aware of the model scale and thus what small 0.x mm value you need for the fillet

glad this all worked out

It's hopefully going to be a 3D printer's heat break.

Thanks for noticing!

No worries

Glad this all worked out

I am actually not sure if at this tiny scale working with the 3D printer and will be visible

Oh, sorry, I think I didn't explain that clearly  :

This shall be a heatbreak FOR the 3D printer.

The manifacturing method will actually also be additive, but I will not use a regular 3D printer but something more high tech ;)

I'll see if I can share some pictures when it's ready.
