I suppose it is the projected view from one side that you are after, rather than 1 face.

anyhow, draft makes this really simple.

- import step
- orient to front view
- draft / Draft_Shape2DView (creates the 2d projection in xy-plane, although step is oriented in xz-plane)
- orient to rear view
- draft/Shape2DView
- select first shape and file/export/dxf, and same for other shape
- done

if one wants them to be oriented "on top of eachother" with correct orientation, transform or mirror will do that for you.

Thank you. The DXF you posted is just what I needed.
I'll forgo learning this process for now since it appears the software needs some work :)

(UPDATE) I see the example shown is in FreeCad 0.20 . I'll have to update and see what I can do.

my opinion: freecad is now 100% usable for dxf ex and import. also for mechanical engineering, metal construction, steel construction, wood construction, etc.

i have already made several such constructions. so far there have been no complaints.

that is an interesting approach,

my post is made in v19, would also work in earlier versions and we are talking about a handful clicks.

if you forgo that type of learning - maybe best to start paying someone to do the work for you.
