Detail View anchor point for 3D Views

Post by LorTay »

Hi there,

I'm trying to create a detail as shown in this screenshot, but the default anchor point doesn't overlap the object. How can I get the anchor point to overlap the object? Is it even possible to create a detail view of 3D views? How does the coordinate system work for detail views?

Thank you.

When creating the detail view, you can adjust X and Y coordinate to move the "looking glass". After creation you can change the Anchor point in the properties by expanding it and changing the values of the components.

For next time: Please have a look at the big red banner at the top and act accordingly. Although please have a look at the wiki to start with TechDraw_DetailView

Hi M4x and chrisb,
Thank you.

1) Be nice to others!
- Okay, I'll do my best. :)

2) Search the forum first
- Check. I understand I need to modify my anchor points, but there are an infinite number of x, y, z values. I'm not able to get the anchor point to land on my part still.

3) Please provide your FreeCAD version info
- v0.18. I would run v0.19, but my computer is too outdated.

4) Open the Help --> About FreeCAD menu then click on the "Copy to clipboard" button, and paste its content in the text input area.

Qt version: 5.6.2

5) Please provide a complete description of your problem
- I cannot get the anchor point to land on my part. The attached screenshot is what I'm hoping to create.

6)Add your FreeCAD file and/or screen captures
- See previous screenshot. This time I've uploaded my file.

Thank you.

This is what I have done:
- select View001
- create a detail view
It is too small, too low too far right.

- increase Radius to 200, leave the field, the detail circle will update
- reduce X to -200, that's the diameter of the detail circle
- increase Y to 300, again guessed from the diameter.
That's already pretty good. Finetuning is left to you.

I don't know why the vertical bars are missing, but I see some error messages in report view. It may help if you veeerrryy slightly turn the view.

And here's a screencast of what chrisb described. But instead of changing the X and Y values manually, I used the drag function.

Ragarding the parts that are missing in the DetailView: I tried to fuse all parts together to try it again (boolean operation) but FreeCAD complained about non-solid parts. Maybe that's what's behind the missing elements in TechDraw.

M4x & chrisb,

Thank you for your help. I tried your method, but my older version of FreeCad doesn't let me drag. I did, however, figure out the problem. I had a rogue line or sketch in my geometry as shown in the screenshot. Once I got rid of that, my Detail view functioned properly. I assume that is why it wasn't showing up in your drawing as well.

There is only one other problem; with Detail View, the part's geometry spills outside the view's frame. Have you seen this before?

I'm glad that it's working. The other thing is strange. Can you upload your file again please? If we can't get rid.of it, this could be used as a workaround: TechDraw_ClipGroup
