Thanks for trying so hard. It's much appreciated.

I have no idea how to ping leave alone how to go about 'pinging Pablogil'. I am, however, certain that someone out there who has had an eye on this thread knows how such problems might arise. I hope such a person will join in and put us all out of our misery. :D

Would starting a new thread specifically dealing with the problem at https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic. ... 66#p531966 be kosher? It would avoid some of the sidetracks and misunderstandings in this thread.

Is it so hard to type ping in the search box?

I'd tried it in the Command Screen

The commandline is not the search box.
The forum has at its upper right a search box.
Type the work "ping" in there and hit enter.
Using FreeCAD style for the forum it looks like this, and leads to an entry telling you that "pinging" someone is just a special quote.

Thanks chrisb. I tried that I was sent to a page of links. The one I chose sent me to https://duckduckgo.com/?q=ping&sa=Searc ... org&ia=web. I chose the top link which looked promising - https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?t=26990. That turned out to be a thread on the forum which I can only describe as chatter. It certainly means nothing else to me. I couldn't understand the list of instructions in your original posting, leave alone the replies.

Well, I did type in "ping Palbogil" in the Searchbox once ... but nothing happened at this end.

Since "palbogil wrote" to you I assume you can write back. Perhaps you might intercede and see if he can offer advice on this matter.
Some deeper insight is certainly needed.

What can possibly be OBTUSE!!!! about that?

You must think I set out to waste people's time. I tell you ... NOTHING CAN BE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH!

chrisb posted a query and I responded with an accurate description of what I had done and the reaction to that action. NOTHING HAPPENED! Is something supposed to happen? What?

BTW: If you are wondering why I first tried pinging from the command line, it never occurred to me to try pinging someone in a website serachbox. I always thought the website searchboxes were for searching the website.

I have made contact with palbogil who has had a look at where we are on this matter. He thinks that the drop-down menu is probably hard-coded and therefore modifications will be very difficult. As a consequence we seem to have reached a dead end. It's a shame, having come so close to a solution and my thanks go once again to all those who have contributed.

I have given up on modifying a template and installed
Word size of FreeCAD: 64-bit
Version: 0.19.24291 (Git)
Build type: Release
Branch: releases/FreeCAD-0-19

I have been able to define a GUI with softer, glare-free colours yet with the sort of definition I was seeking for taking screen videos.

FTR: contacting palbogil had nothing to do with a pinging process. I didn't know a ping would carry a message to someone - that's why I was mystified. Generally speaking a ping command sends packets of data to a specific IP address and then returns data transmission and response time. Its used to check connections on a network. It doesn't carry text. That's as I understand it, anyway. :) However, I stand to be corrected if I am in error.

BTW: if I appear obtuse read that I am confused. ;)
