Is my sketch broken?

Post by überfuzz »

I have a sketch with some splines that I suspect is faulty (when I try to use it my drawing breaks). The file I attaches is like the 3d try on this shape. Help would be highly appreciated...

Looks okay to me. What are you trying to do that fails?

I try to put a chamfer on the rounded edges...

you do your Pad in PartWb, I suspect you are trying to do the fillet in Part design:?:
by doing a sketch with splines you have a 99.99% chance (risk) of crash

maybe not 99%... I tried maybe 10 times before it worked.

Make the splines really tangent. It is a known issue that chamfers and fillets tend to fail on nearly tangent edges.

Looked at your sketch: It is not recommended to repeat dimensions if you can use geometric constraints instead.

I tried with tangent B-splines, but chamfer doesn't work either. You may try inserting short straight segments or arcs between the splines. And modeling only one quarter and then mirroring twice could make changes easier.

With ellipses and arcs the work can be done and than there is no problem with chamfer

Here is a double mirror example.
