Rotary vane pump

Post by Slidingvane »

Hi everybody,

Could somebody help me please ?

I am trying to design a sliding vane pump on FreeCAD.
Everything was ok until I reached the assembly stage.
I was able to make all the parts fit properly however, matching vanes with stator cylinder seems impossible.
Did anybody ever managed to design a sliding vane pump assembly with FreeCAD.

Thank you for the consideration granted to this post

PS: This is my 1st time ever on a forum so if for any reason I didn't respect the presentation rules, I apologize.

Please read through the thread linked in the big red banner at the top and provide your FreeCAD information. Can you share what you have so far? Did you use an assembly workbench? If so, which one?

if you upload the parts somewhere I can try to shoot a video of the assembly with on-board equipment

Dear All,

Thank you for your replies.

My FreeCAD version is:

OS: Windows 10 Version 2009
Word size of OS: 64-bit
Word size of FreeCAD: 64-bit
Version: 0.19.24291 (Git)
Build type: Release
Branch: releases/FreeCAD-0-19
Hash: 7b5e18a0759de778b74d3a5c17eba9cb815035ac
Python version: 3.8.6+
Qt version: 5.15.2
Coin version: 4.0.1
OCC version: 7.5.0
Locale: French/France (fr_FR)

I am using A2plus V0.4.50.

For those who are not used to sliding vane pumps, please watch the below video from VIKING PUMP which will help for understanding of the problem.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxIio2r_bQE

Basically, I try to find a way to create a tangential constraint between the head of the vane and the internal cylinder of the stator as the vane are mean to wipe this cylindrical surface.

Please check basic assembly below:

My problem looks similar to the one encountered in this subject : https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?t=55555

Could you please let me know if there is a solution to that ?

Thank you

Best regard

I would use skeleton sketch for each vane.
Will try to knock up simple example.
I am using Link branch and Assembly3

BTW attached FreeCAD file has been created in Link branch (2021.09.16), because that is what I am using (so if you want to examine it you need Link branch installed), but it should be possible to recreate the same in other versions of FreeCAD with assembly3 workbench installed.
