Surface filling with many edges

Post by NewJoker »

Hi,

I have a sketch with many edges (created by downgrading the surface of a gear model imported to FreeCAD in step format). It’s a closed profile and I’d like to fill it with a planar surface. I know there’s a Surface Filling tool in the Surface workbench but it wants me to add edges one by one which would take too long in this case. Is there a way to select them all at once or maybe I could use a different tool to achieve my goal ?

Use Part MakeFace.

What is it what you finally want to achieve? Can't you use the downgraded wire directly?

Thank you very much, this tool works just as expected. What I need is a surface that can be exported to external FEA software. Basically, I want to perform a 2D analysis on a geometry obtained directly from the 3D model.

I have just tried the following:

0) preliminary step: created a gear with FCGear and exported as step
1) imported the step file
2) Draft->downgrade
3) remove all unwanted faces

-> Finally I am left with the face of interest. This seems to be already what you need.

Couldn't you just Draft downgrade the result of FCGear?

You can probably use Draft upgrade to upgrade the closed wire to a face, too. You can upgrade edges to a wire if they're connected, then upgrade that wire to a face.
