Since your new, the linear pattern is a good way to see what constraints do, notice in the pic how the constraints are listed between each circle, this is what linear pattern produces. You can click on those constrains and delete some and keep others to make various effects. This can be a useful start even if you don't want a linear array. In the pic this was a linear pattern but because I deleted some constraints it's still all connected be it's in a few sections of two, and between the sectioned circles the angle is held true. The sections can be moved about because of the deleted constraints.

It seems to me that most respondents have mis-understood the original question. The circles are to be equidistant from a line. That does not mean they are equidistant from each other.

That is also a possibility, of course, but the original question was how to place the circles in vertical alignment.

* Draw (big) circles (more or less vertically aligned)
* Select the centers with a box from LEFT to RIGHT
* Vertical constraint
* Select the circles with a box from RIGHT to LEFT (just need to touch them all with the box, do not select center)
* Equality constraint
* Constrain horizontally one circle, all will follow.
