How to Move an object in Sketcher relative to the Grid?

Post by Fran_iii »

OK, I've poked around for an hour or more but can't seem to zero in on the answer I'm looking for so I'm asking for some help.

I've drawn a simple 20x20 square in Part Design Sketcher and constrained it such that...
the bottom left corner at x=0, y=0.
and the top right corner at x=20, y-20

Now I realize I want to "shift" the square left 10 units...
This would put the bottom left corner at x = -10 and y = 0
And the top right corner at x= +10 and y = 20

I have been unable to figure out how to do it so some help would be greatly appreciated.

Question 2: Is it OK to take a Part Design Sketch and switch to the Draft Workbench and back?

Thanks again for any help.

Note: This is relative to a more complicated sketch but the simple example will suffice to get me educated.

FreeCAD v0.19
Windows 10
Intel i7 processor

With the sketch open, the Combo view shows various things about the sketch.

I'm guessing when you created the square you had/have Auto constraints on and the lower left corner is now constrained to the Root point (this is the name of the sketch 0,0 point).

To move you need to find out which of the point on point constraints Image shown in the Constraints window is that constraint and delete it. (Be aware that this may also make the vertexes of this point will need to be re-constrained after you move them off Root.)

Answer 2: It is ok, but to what end? To allow the movement of the square? If so, learning the method above would be better...
