Parametric Solid built from Surfaces ?

Post by paullee »

Trying to model this building, start from one wall https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=44185

Using Part Create Shape to build Solid from Shell, the Shell from Surfaces, but found this tool is not parametric.

Any idea what other tool is available ? Thanks :)

  1. Built 4 sketches outlining the wall profile (5th screencapture)
  2. Rule Surface to build all 6 surfaces
(4 surfaces first [inner wall surface, outerwall surface, wall top and bottom surface)
(then from the 2 vertical edges of the wall surfaces to Rule Surface the 2 end wall surfaces)
  3. Now, use Part Create Shape to create a Shell from this 6 Surfaces
  4. Then, again Create Solid from this Shell. OK, to use this Solid as Base for ArchWall
  5. But found Part Create Shape is Not Parametric.

Part Shape builder is not parametric, unfortunately. Surface workbench is parametric. When you get the faces all made go to Curves workbench and use the solid creation tool there (green box icon).

You're asking for a single solid, is there a special requirement to build it as an assembly of individual surfaces? Sketch and constrain top and bottom profiles of the wall as edge profiles and loft the closed profiles together as ruled surfaces in Part WB. The loft is associative with the sketches. Loft as solid or closed surfaces.

Thanks! Needs to explore more workbench now :)

Found the wiki !

Ar! Looks much simpler and intuitive indeed. Will try, thanks ! :)

Even if surface modeling is not indicated for this particular project it's still good to explore the options and have them in your bag of tricks should the need arise.

Indeed ! Thanks for the tip and good to learn more tools !

In fact, sometime Loft behaves different when the base is an Edge or a Wire (or Wires from Sketch), and it seems doesn't works when 1 object is Sketch (multiple edges and resulted in a Wire) and the other is a Draft Spline (an Edge ?) :)
