FreeCAD BIM Doors become Windows in the tree
Started a very simple building in BIM workbench but after erecting walls and choosing to insert doors they all became windows.
I imagine this is a simple issue but one I can't fathom. This seems to happen in both Master and Link3 branches

Re: FreeCAD BIM Doors become Windows in the tree
Hi Thomas,
Here is the file I started in Link Branch (it does the same in Master) although I don't think the file will be much assistance.
The only difference between Door and Window tools seems to be the default size. They both place an element labelled Window in the walls.
Cheers

IMO there is nothing wrong with the behavior. It is a design choice. In the BIM WB a separate tool is available to place doors but that is just for convenience.

Re: FreeCAD BIM Doors become Windows in the tree
hallo paul
without bim workbench (with arch) it seems to work. is that a solution for you?
Re: FreeCAD BIM Doors become Windows in the tree
Roy 043,
You feel having two tools that produce the same output, except for default size, is appropriate?
The first thing my students will ask me is "Why does it do that?"
The second will be "Why can't it produce a label Door for the Door tool?"
Thanks Thomas,
Tonight I don't see a Door option in FreeCAD Link Branch Arch workbench or do you mean I should add that tool from BIM into Arch?
I know it used to be there in Master in 0.17 so I will check when I have access tomorrow.

Re: FreeCAD BIM Doors become Windows in the tree
... The Door tool in the BIM WB is just there to store a 2nd user preference. You can also place windows with the tool, and doors with the Windows tool if you want. So maybe the name of the tool is a bit confusing.
What are your thoughts about French windows in this context...

Yes it is rather confusing.
French doors are very suitable, unfortunately the structure we are building is a rolled steel clad shed with roller doors!

Re: FreeCAD BIM Doors become Windows in the tree
I have not used BIM often, though noted BIM distinguish Doors and Windows, whilst under the hood it is basically Arch Windows.
Maybe ping @yorik to further discuss this, or more to Draft, Arch & BIM sub-forum for more exposure to discuss ?Would like

Re: FreeCAD BIM Doors become Windows in the tree
Thanks all.
I had followed the Arch tutorial years ago and now, returning to it I can see that using the presets in the window option does produce the desired result of a component in the tree named Door, although the labelling of other attributes is now in what looks like Portuguese. The native depth is 0.0 and altering it to the depth of the wall seems to fail to create the hole. Perhaps I am missing something else fundamental here but to me it is not intuitive.
