Angled Datum

Post by frisbee »

Good Morning; New to FreeCAD here.. I have some modeling experience with solidworks..
When using an angled datum for a pad. (steps as follows)
Create a datum, select face (from existing block geometry)
Rotate datum -30º Y axis
draw geometry (on activated datum) then "close"
select Pad POOF all geometry is GONE!!!! except pad
I clicked on ok out desperation and got an error

Pad: Result has multiple solids. This is not supported at this time

A body object is by definition a single contiguous solid, sounds like you modelled in such a way that the Pad did not intersect whatever was in the body before it.

Generally, if you are using a datum plane, then attached it to the axis system of the Body, not a face of a solid, to make your model more robust.

Note that you usually don't need to use a datum plane since you can just directly attach a sketch then adjust it's attachment offset, like in your example just rotate the sketch, so you only need datum planes in specific cases.
