Axes settings for 3DConnexion space mouse on Mac OS

Post by CoContrivances »

I have:
  • Mac OS 12.0.1 Monterey
  • FreeCAD 0.19
  • 3DConnexion SpaceNavigator for Notebooks space mouse
  • 3DConnexion Home 1.2.2 driver software
The problem I'm having is that in FreeCAD the y and z translations are swapped, and y-axis and z-axis rotations are swapped as well. I tried to change the mapping in the System Preferences —> 3DConnexion —> Axes for the FreeCAD application, but it seems to have no effect.

Quitting FreeCAD and System Preferences and re-opening or even re-starting the computer didn't help. Am I missing something?

Is the problem with MacOS, the 3DConnexion software, or FreeCAD? When I try the 3DConnexion driver interface demo, the axes are correct, unlike in FreeCAD.

Don't know if it matters, but I had installed FreeCAD first and then 3DConnexion Home. Then I tried deleting FreeCAD and re-installing it; didn't help.
Attempted y-z axis swap had no effect on behavior in FreeCAD

Aha, fixed it myself: I changed the axes settings for all applications instead of just for FreeCAD, and it worked. So I guess one of the other applications is the intermediary for space mouse inputs. Not sure which one.
