Pad from sketck

Post by medic3a »

I'm new here and to CAD. Some background in CNC and 2D but not at this level. Made a sketch, rectangle with a couple of holes, closed it and when i try to pad it, it won't. Tells me it's not selected. Tried everything i could think of.
p.s. i'm running the latest ver of freecad, 0.19

We could help you more easily if you uploaded the file. Edit and attach to your original post.

Did you create the lines in construction mode? (typically show as blue lines)

Construction lines don't show outside the sketch. And, can't create geometry.

They can be toggled to/from construction mode with: Image.

It would be nice to have your FreeCAD file and the information as recommended in the BIG PINK BANNER at the top of this page in the forum.

Otherwise we need to use the crystal ball to guess what you're on about...and wouldn't ya know, my crystal ball is in my other suit.

;) See, if you go to Help>About there is a big button that says Copy to clipboard. And, your version of this can be pasted in your post:

I don't think new users can attach files until their first post is approved. Is this really a sensible restriction? Nobody sees the post anyway until a moderator approves of it.

I told you what is most probably the answer. Did you try what I suggested? :?:

If you read the banner, then how come no info?

I can produce this error in Part::Extrude when not selecting the sketch first before running the command.

If it's all construction mode geometry you get this error in Part Design:

Somewhat related to this, I'm not sure when this was added, but in Part Design if you have a sketch and nothing selected and you run the Pad tool you get the Pad. I guess it figures since you only have one sketch that must be what you intend to Pad.

Yes, I tried that later since, while looking for how to produce the error.

And, I noticed the Pad with nothing selected pads the available sketch behaviour as well.

But, the OP offers no particular info about workbench, etc. so, I guessed at a common problem...

This restriction doesn't exist. The first post can have attachments.

And yet decide to ignore all of it and then have the audacity to complain about not receiving help without even providing meaningful information about your problem
Be a little understanding please drmacro's crystall ball is out of reach and mine ran out of magic juice so I sent it back for refurbishment
