Joining Parts

IM still relatively new to freecad and must have done something wrong or missed out a stage because i cant join these parts together.

Every time i try i get a error exclamation and the parts disappear. I have to do crtl+Z to get everything back

What are you trying to do? Why do they need to be "joined"?

If you want to assemble and animate, for example, you should look into one of the assembly workbenches.

I do not see any glaring problems with what you have done, but it is not clear what you want to do next.

Your mesh seems has some troubles. Its impossible to convert it into solid.
You should find a nice one or rebuild the hinge with PartDesign...
